COVID-19 and Music: When we sing or shout, we expel more air at a further distance than when we talk, thus risking the virus could spread up to 16 feet. This is why our singing has changed, out of caring and loving for our neighbor as Christ taught us; to diminish the risk of infecting others and ourselves. It is unknown how long the music within our parish and across the world will be affected. Thousands of churches have ceased music altogether, so we are glad we can safely incorporate music to enhance the Holy Mass. Until it is safe for the congregation to sing, music will only be led by a cantor and an accompanist.
“Sing to the LORD a new song; Sing to the LORD, all the earth. Sing to the LORD, bless His name; Proclaim good tidings of His salvation from day to day.” (Psalm 96: 1-2)
Music is an integral part of worship, especially at St. Mary's! We are blessed with many dedicated volunteers, especially in music ministry. We have a large, GROWING, and fantastic group of dedicated musicians for our 10:00am English-speaking Mass and a dedicated, vibrant praise band for the 12:00pm Spanish-speaking Mass. We proclaim a broad range of musical styles, from traditional hymns to contemporary, praise-band music. The music ministry is always inviting those who can and love to sing or play instruments to enhance the Holy Mass. Feel free to explore this site to better understand not only the Music Ministry, but the other ministries here at St. Mary of the Annunciation. Please contact Ryan Ward, the Coordinator of Liturgical Music, if you are interested in offering your time and your talent. His contact information can be found on the Our Staff page of our website.
