St. Mary of the Annunciation Catholic Church, built in 1858, is an imposing edifice whose soaring spire is easily seen across the Ohio River from Louisville, KY. The interior is filled with stunning Italian marble, exquisitely detailed paintings and arches, and beautiful stained-glass windows. An inner-city parish, which also ministers to a growing Spanish-speaking population, ministers to a wide variety of congregants in Floyd County, including those of different socio-economic statuses, political parties, and cultures. St. Mary's formerly operated an elementary school that graduated thousands of students, including the famed Cardinal Joseph E. Ritter, former Archbishop of Indianapolis and St. Louis, Missouri, who led the fight for desegregating Catholic schools.
More information about the parish's history is being added over time.
