IV: Joseph Cardinal Ritter: Advocate for
Human Rights
“Considered by many to be an unassuming and humble person,
St. Mary’s native son Joseph Cardinal Ritter became
one of the most significant figures of the Roman Catholic Church
in the 20th century.
Though mild
mannered in nature, Cardinal Ritter delivered a quiet, thoughtful
leadership that impacted both the Church and society for generations
to come. His
devotion to inclusion, tolerance, social justice, and ecumenism set the tone
of the post –Vatican II era.”
